Frugal Frog Weekend Update!

Hello Readers!

This weekend was a Frugal Frog success!  And we made memories! And we had fun!

Now here are the details…

Friday:

Chase was at a residency interview in Virginia, so I had a pajama and reality television date with my DVR. I also made an INSANE Paleo vegetable beef stew in my crockpot. I promise to share the recipe!

P.S.

Is anyone else watching Season 2 of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills? Kelsey Grammer’s Ex-wife KILLS me!

Total Cost = $0 dollars

Saturday:

I went for a nice long run and then Chase and I went to an Irish concert at the Celtic Festival in our little town of Bethlehem (haha).

The band we saw was “Burning Bridget Cleary.” Strange name, amazing Celtic folk music.

Chase LOVES this band. He has their CD and this is the second time he has seen them in concert. I have absolutely atrocious taste in music, so I try to glean from him. 🙂  Click HERE for a sample of their music. Seriously, listen to it!

Not only was this concert amazing, it was FREE! We did not even have to pay for parking!

Plus, by packing a lunch, we avoided expensive fried food, and meat on a stick:

Somehow I managed to resist the Scottish “Meat Pies” as tempting as they were…

On Saturday night, we had a DVR date and caught up on all of the new Fall shows and ate leftover stew (Stew is ALWAYS better the next day–YUM)! It went something like this: Up All Night, followed by Criminal Minds, capped off with Modern Family and The Office.  We love TV.

Total Cost = $0

Sunday:

Today we had our weekly date with our Little Brother! We went back to the Celtic Classic, but this time we attended the “Highland Games.” Basically we watched a bunch of giant men in skirts try to hoist a rock down a field. It. Was. Awesome. The boys especially loved it!

I have never seen more grown men in skirts. Seriously. My favorite were the khaki cargo kilts–for the industrial modern day Celtic gentleman. Rachel Zoe would not approve.

I did spend $4 on a coffee for me and a hot chocolate for the Little Bro. He proclaimed it “an excellent Cup of Joe.” Haha!

Somehow, I resisted spending $1000 on this giant boulder. Phew!

This afternoon I splurged and went to Olfactory Heaven:

They had a sale on all food smelling candles, aka the best candles in the store! I bought 2 Vanilla cupcake tarts and 2 Maple Pancake tarts. It was $6 well spent!

We splurged and had an afternoon snack out. What a luxury! Chase got a cookie ice cream sandwich at Nestle Toll House (I always think the Friends episode with Phoebe’s “secret” cookie recipe…anyone know what I am talking about?!). I got some Peanut M&M’s at Fuzziwig’s candy store. I realize Peanut M&M’s are not Paleo, but MAN they were delicious! And they didn’t have any gluten, so my stomach is still good-to-go!

Chase was still hungry, so he got an OSTRICH burger at The Burgery.

I had a bite of it…it tasted like sub-par ground beef. Totally not worth the $12 he spent for it! On the other hand, the $2 fries were delectable! 🙂

Grand Total for the Weekend = $30

I would deem this a successful frugal frog weekend!

Did you have a frugal frog weekend? What Fall shows are you watching? Any recommendations?

  1. Wow, that’s pretty good! Sounds like you guys managed to have an awesome time but barely spend anything…impressive! I definitely did not have a frugal weekend with all the trips I made to the grocery store and my big frozen yogurt treat 🙂

  2. My husband was also out of town so I had a major date with Mad Men on Netflix. I haven’t watched any new shows so far, but I will definitely watch 30 Rock when it comes on. I also want to get into Modern Family because everyone loves it and back into The Office because it sounds like the first episode was totally hilarious.

  8. Wow! I WISH I could have lived like that. With a friend in town, it was kind of rough. I’m thinking I will start trying to do that, like today! So cool!
