Unintentional Frugal Frog Weekend Update

The plan for the weekend was to:

1) Splurge a little on a lovely pair of shoes.

2) Go on a date night with Chase

3) Have a semi-nice dinner out

Instead I had a hot date with:

1)

2)

and last, but not least

3)

Yep, I got sick! I actually have not been sick since last December. This is a record for me! I think eating Paleo has really boosted my immune system. However, the past week I have been burning the candle at both ends, traveling (airplane germs!), and dealing with lots of stress.  My body simply had enough.

Consequently, this ended up being a SUPER frugal frog weekend!

Friday:

I got home from work, took medicine, and promptly fell asleep by 9 PM.

Cost = Free 🙂

Saturday:

Chase and I attempted to go shoe shopping, but I quickly gave up/got too tired to persevere. Chase wanted to go out for lunch or dinner, but with my sore throat and stuffy nose, nothing sounded appealing. So basically we spent $0 dollars on shoes and $0 dollars on dining this weekend.

We did, however, make a Target run for Flinstone vitamins (LOVE), and other cold/flu staples.

Last night we caught up on our DVR shows (Modern Family was SO good this week!) and I was asleep in bed by 9:30 PM. I know, my wild and crazy ways are just too much.

Sunday:

Chase worked at the hospital this morning, So I attempted to rest. I am the WORST sick person ever. I hate doing nothing. My head is all swimmy, so I can’t read or I get dizzy.  Consequently, I get super antsy, but then I overdue and make everything worse. I have been making a concerted effort to EMBRACE rest this weekend as well as fluids. I have downed so many cups of water and tea that I feel positively buoyant.

I rewarded myself this afternoon by going apple picking with Chase and our little brother. My apple addiction is currently stabilizing at 4 apples per day. I am officially giving this whole “an apple a day, keeps the doctor away” thing a chance. I have nothing to lose at this point and I am a big proponent of the “Go BIG, or go home” philosophy.

This is me with one of our Ida Red apples! They are simply perfect. Nothing beats a fresh apple. Grocery store apples with their artificial wax simply cannot compare.

Chase decided to test one out.  The orchard allows you to sample as you pick. I LOVE that they give you permission, because I am one of those people who scolds people who eat their offerings before they pay for them! (I have a tremendously over-active conscience…I was totally “that girl” who tattle-taild on anyone who disobeyed).

We left with a bushel of apples, 2 sugar pumpkins, and 2 apple ciders for $22. I think that is a steal of a deal!

Nothing makes me happier than peering into the fridge and seeing a crisper full of fresh apples!

And the profile view:

Love. Love. Love.

We came home and Chase and the lil bro enjoyed the apple crisp I made earlier today (Mumsie’s recipe..it is da’ bomb).

It is not even 6 PM and I have completely exhausted myself. I did, however, make some Amazingness in a Bowl for dinner.

Do you think 100 servings of veggies plus a hearty dose of healthy fat will cure me?

I am hoping to wake up cured tomorrow! Here’s hoping….

Are you a “good” sick person? Any tips or tricks on how to cure a chest cold?

  1. I pretty much suck at being sick- I go to school unless I seriously can’t function…. it is hard to make sub plans and then I end up worrying allllll day if they are being good for their sub. …..Sleep and laziness is the best medicine! 🙂 PS- your apples look delish! Mmmmm!

  4. I’m sorry you were sick…but you look like you have rebounded quickly. (I guess “an apple a day” does makes a difference). I’m a good sick person…..cuz I’m NEVER sick. When I am sick, I just sleeeeeeeeep for hours, then wake up, and get up!

  6. Oh no! I’m so sorry. What a bummer! I think the 100 servings of veggies will definitely help you out though! I hate being sick, and I don’t usually get sick ever really so when I do – I’m such a goner. And a whiner. Especially if I had to miss a day of running. The apple picking adventure looks super fun though!

  8. I rarely ever get sick, but your weekend sounds like mine about two weeks ago. All I could do was lay around and sleep. Fortunately I wasn’t dizzy at all so I could read/ watch Netflix..

  11. I am MEGA jealous of your apple drawer you know! But also mega sorry for you feeling so rotten. My personal trick is to eat raw garlic – which I SWEAR has worked for me so many time, but which is every bit as antisocial as mythology would have you believe. Your choice!!

    Hugs! xox
