Frugal Frog Friday at last!

Has this week gone so slow for anyone else? I thought Frugal Frog Friday would never get here!

Due to the fact that last weekend was far too frugal due to illness, I hope that this weekend will be a nice combination of fun and frugality.

Friday:

Friday night is being declared DVR Dump night.

We have a hot date with this:

( Our Couch)

and this:

(Paleo Chili Leftovers).

Due to Chase leaving on Sunday for a month,  I need him to eat the millions of leftovers we have in our fridge. Friday night will be finish the fridge night. Our need for the DVR dump is for the same reason–we must watch all of our shows together, because they are going to pile up in the next month. (I am a good wife and have promised not to watch “our shows” without him: Modern Family, The Middle, Criminal Minds, New Girl, Mike and Molly and The Office…yes, we watch a lot of TV…don’t hate).

Saturday:

Saturday is going to be my best attempt to squeeze as many fun, amazing, memorable activities into one single 24-hour period. I have this need to “Make Memories” before Chase leaves which ends up putting horrendous amounts of stress on both of us to have an inordinate amount of fun. Yes, I make fun stressful. I am just that awesome. My goal is to NOT do this on Saturday. I will let you know how it goes…

We are debating going to see a movie. We have discussed going to see this for the past 3 weeks:

Has anyone seen this? Any thoughts? The fact that we have not seen it in 3 weeks, makes me think that waiting 2 months until it comes out on DVD might be a better (and cheaper!) idea.

A side mission of Saturday is to stay as distracted as possible so that I do not break into fits of weeping (I am kind of talented at preemptive grief). We may go on a Fall Walk, but this depends on how distracting Chase thinks he can be.

A trip to the library will be necessary so Chase can get plane reading material and I can find some “distact-me” chic lit for the next 4 weeks.

Saturday night will also most likely include dinner at a nice restaurant. This is our last date night dinner for a MONTH–thus, I am pretty sure frugality can take a backseat to FUN!

Sunday:

We will be waking up early to drive said active-duty Naval husband to the airport.

I then plan to NOT CRY and, instead, stock up on pepper spray and mouse traps on my way home (Must. Be. Prepared. For. Everything.

I have decided that I will go on a long run to distract me and watch trashy reality TV.

I will have a fair amount of work to catch up on so I hope it will keep me occupied for the day.

My goal is to stay SUPER busy! I also plan to cook something uber girly for dinner that I would never get away with if Chase were there. It will most likely be a panoply of roasted squash. I LOVE squash and Chase hates it–strange boy.

Ultimately, Friday and Sunday will be SUPER frugal, while on Saturday we will spend some money–but nothing too crazy!

Have you seen any good movies lately? Any suggestions?

  1. Hi Lovely! First off – at the library stock up on Shopaholic books (so funny) and also read Freedom immediately, if you havent already. Poss my fave book ever written – I loved it so so so much! Second of all, totes go crazy on the indulgent meal out – whats your absolute favourite cuisine?? Third – roasted sqaush sounds essential – make a sort of lasagne with squash but without the pasta or cheese (which I guess is basically chilli, but never mind).

As for the MUST HAVE FUN dilemma… I think I speak for all girls whove ever done long distance when I say we’ve been there. Tears and drama – thats what girls are for!! xox

  2. I haven’t seen any movies recently–I only go to the theater when I am with children under the age of 8, so I’m usually seeing PG movies!

I hope you and Chase have a wonderful weekend. Just enjoy your time together and don’t waste time thinking about being apart!

    • I think this may actually be the longest we have been apart because I usually try to go and visit him for at least one weekend. I am just trying not to think about just how long he will be gone–eek!

Yes, the goal will be to make a billion happy thoughts this weekend! 🙂

  5. Yes, you’ve got to keep yourself busy – that is key! I’m sure you will have no problem doing that with your 45 jobs …crazy girl! 🙂 When Ash deployed to Iraq I didn’t have cable (I refused to) so for valentines day he bought me all six seasons of Sex and the City and the movie so I watched that for a whole year. Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda were just some of the friends that helped me through a deployment. 🙂 I also watched a ton of chick flicks! Btw – have you seen “Something borrowed”? I read the book a couple years back and while Ash was in DC recently I rented that movie, it was really cute!!

  7. Have a wonderful weekend with the hubby! I totally understand where you are coming from with the preemptive grief… long distance is hard, but you seem as ready as possible. Every time my man is gone I do the girliest things imaginable…. that is def a good distraction. Good luck 🙂

  11. Sounds like an awesome Friday night. 🙂 New Girl is so funny! I’ve only seen 2 episodes, but they were hysterical. I totally understand that stressful fun thing. That’s how I felt in a super long-distance relationship for two years (not as tough as the army thing – I admire you guys for that), but the last day together always felt so bittersweet. Hope you have the best weekend and keep super busy! 🙂
