Busy Bee Weekend

Source

This weekend has been absolutely crazy. Thankfully, this is the last weekend I will spend alone as I am headed home to Kentucky this week. I cannot believe that this hellacious month is finally coming to an end. This was definitely one of those months where everything that could go wrong, did go wrong, but its all blue skies from here on out. Looking back on the past year, I cannot believe that Chase has been gone for a quarter of 2011. It has been stinking hard to live without my best friend, but I do feel like quite the independent woman.

Cue “Independent Women” by Destiny’s Child.

Is that an ear worm for anyone else? The second I hear three notes of that song it is in my head the whole entire day.

I am going to apologize in advance for the incredibly tangential nature of this post. I got approximately 3 hours of sleep last night so I am a bit of a space cadet today. Here are some of the highlights of my weekend:

Yesterday I meandered into Target, my home away from home. Whenever I am at Target I always check the clothing section for the clearance rack. I have been able to find some real gems for less than $10. Well, I totally hit paydirt. After seeing the endless ways that Colleen wears and wardrobes leggings, I have been trying to embrace the trend. I have not been incredibly successful at this, until now. I finally found a long-ish shirt that perfectly works with a leggings look.

(Taking a self-portrait is really rather tricky!)

The whole reason for my Target trip was to get supplies to make a Thanksgiving Turkeys with two little girls I babysat for last night. I kind of go crazy for crafting when I hang out with older kids since I am so accustomed to babies.

Now, when I say we made Turkeys, I am not talking about this kind of bird:

I am talking about THIS:

(This would be my turkey, Mr. Fred)

(Above is Mr. Gobble, the creation of the 7 year-old)

And this would be Mr. Turkey, the little 4-year-old’s masterpiece.

The girls LOVED it. We also traced our hands and colored Turkey signs in addition to making a paper chain countdown to Christmas.

We had a very busy night. 🙂

While yesterday was all fun and games, today has been torture. I am SUCH a crabby person with no sleep. Plus, I have been grading papers since 4:15 AM, so basically I am a giant grouch with a cherry on top.

My “fun breaks” from grading are going to be packing, and laundry. Try not to be too jealous, okay?!

What was the BEST part of your weekend and what was the WORST part?

  4. Sorry to hear that this month has been a chaotic one for you! It’s never fun to have those “off” weeks…I definitely slip into a funk. Luckily, the holidays are here, so hopefully they’ll cheer you up in no time!

I love the striped top! My rule of thumb when wearing leggings/jeggings is check and see if the top covers your butt. The shirt you got works perfectly! Leggings can be extremely unflattering, but also super cute when worn the right way. Also, adding bulk to an outfit works really well with leggings–pair them with a shirt, a long and thick cardigan, and a scarf. That way, the look is more put together and you won’t end up looking like a 13-year-old embracing a bad trend!

    • It was really fun and easy! All I did was cut big square rice krispy treats and then use a bit of frosting to “glue” the Nutter Butter to it. Then we used mini reese’s cups for the face (glued on with more frosting). We used nerds for the eyes and skittles for the beak and feathers. Super easy and super edible. I have learned to never craft with kids unless all things are edible–they always end up in their mouth regardless!

  9. The BEST part of my weekend was going to Chicago to see our 2 baby race horses! They were so cute, and spunky. The WORST part of my weekend was learning that one of our close Christian friends passed away this morning from cancer. (He was in hospice, and his lovely wife was in many ways relieved). So a mixed, but mostly sad situation.

The highlight of the weekend was running the Warrior Dash – so much fun! The worst part of the wknd was my football team losing …to the hubby’s team! Yeah, he isn’t going to let me live that one down!
