Hospital Sick

On Monday I spent time with my two favorite twins in the world. However, this little beauty shared not only her love, but also her germs with me.

In less than 36 hours, I was crazy sick with their stomach virus. While most people fight off a virus with ease, I have a tendency to swan dive into dehydration with great haste. I am sure the 8 mile interval run I did early in the day did not help the situation as it left me dehydrated even before the virus hit. Try as I might, I could not keep any fluid down and my heart rate went crazy; consequently, to the hospital I went.

I spent hours at the hospital getting IV fluids, medicine, etc. I then came home and attempted to rest and rehydrate.

There was a lot of this:

I had forgotten how totally NOT fun fevers are to have. So many aches and chills–yuck!

And lots of diluted juice:

Today has been a much better day–I have actually been able to sit up! Success!

My stomach is still super sensitive, so the whole eating thing has been tricky, especially when eating paleo.

My doctor recommended eating toast and crackers, since they are “easy” to digest. Um, not when your stomach HATES gluten! However, eating vegetables, fruit, and meat is not exactly appetizing.

Here are my modified paleo sick foods:

Plenty of Applesauce:

Chicken broth galore:

White Rice:

And baked potatoes:

Basically, we are having a bland food bonanza in the Groomes household for the next couple days.

  1. Ayy… I’m sorry. That’s the worst. Feel better soon!!!!!!!! I hate eating at all when I’m sick. And then I’ll have a piece of chocolate cake… lol. Not always the wisest plan.

  5. Oh no! Feel better soon. Being sick is the absolute worst. I’m a chicken noodle soup kinda girl when I’m sick.

  12. Oh no! Being sick is the worst! I hope you’re slowly getting back to normal and feeling better!! When I’m sick, I load up on citrus fruits, mainly grapefruits and oranges.

  15. I hope you’re feeling better! If you lived near by I would definitely bring you some chicken (no) noodle soup! I came down with a little something recently and made a big pot of that and it seemed to help. Get lots of rest!! Good thing you have your own personal doc 🙂

  17. I am just seeing this! I hope you are feeling better by now…my go to sick food is Mrs. Grass Chicken Noddle soup…simple and delicious.
