Frugal Frog Friday: 2012 Edition II

Happy Frugal Frog Friday!

Today’s frugal frog tips are going to be focused on frugal traveling.

With all of this house hunting in Washington DC, we have been doing quite a bit of traveling.  In case you have not noticed traveling is CRAZY expensive! However, I have been learning how to do luxury for less–much less!

(This is our hotel elevator picture…I always make Chase take one with me wherever we stay)

Last weekend Chase and I stayed at the Fairmont Hotel DC.

This hotel is GORGEOUS!

There are gold and crystal accents everywhere!

The rooms even have that glorious “spa” aroma.

That bed felt like a cloud. For real.

And don’t even get me started on the shower. It. Was. Magical.

Ok, so you are probably thinking, “what the heck does this have to do with frugality?”  Let me tell you…

The rooms at the Fairmont DC usually cost anywhere from $450-$850 per night. Crazy talk, right? Even though it is not “polite” to talk prices, we spent less than $160 for our room.  Holy Frugal Frog–right?!

We were able to find such an incredibly rate through this amazing little deal:

And get this, you can join for FREE! Just click here:

After you join, they will send you “Great Dates, Great Rates” e-mails where they show you specials for their various hotels. These specials allow you to stay in $800 rooms for $99-$199 dollars–amazing!

There are Fairmont hotels everywhere–around America, Canada, and the world.

The Plaza = A Fairmont Hotel

Le Chateau Frontenac in Quebec = A Fairmont Hotel

Seriously y’all, being a President’s Club member allows you to stay in a CASTLE for $139. AWESOME!

Not only do you get amazing deals, you also get a TON of “complimentary” items and services. For example:

1) Free use of their fitness centers (Which are always AMAZING!)

This is just a small part of the Fairmont DC fitness center. They had a lap pool, racquet ball courts, free weights, and a ton of weight and cardio machines. They also had lemon and lime infused water (that is my favorite part!)

2) Free WiFi Internet in your room = This seriously save you at least $14-20 a day!

3) Free New York Times, Washington Post, or USA Today delivered to your room

4) Express Check-in and Check-out (You get to skip the line!)

5) Free use of Taylormade Golf Clubs

6) Discount on Spa treatments and Gift store

Do you need to know anything more?! You get ALL of these things for FREE! It is simply a perk of signing up and giving them you e-mail address-there is no credit card application–no crazy hoops to jump through–just amazingness!

  5. Wow! What a gorgeous hotel! Thanks for the link, I will definitely sign up. I guess Dallas is our only Texas option but we do love going up there. Our favorite place to stay when we travel is the W Hotel. Together we have been to quite a few locations including Dallas, San Diego, Chicago (where we got engaged!), South Beach and Austin. They are so modern and fun! 🙂

  12. Wow thanks for the tip! Signing up now!

We just stayed at Affinia in DC… they are currently renovating it so the rates are super cheap (I think like $100 a night compared to a few hundred). The renovations are from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily, when most people are out of the hotel anyways.

  13. The Frontenac Fairmont in Quebec City is the most glorious place ever! Stayed in a turret in the castle, had our own elevator and the view was breathtaking. Hands down my fave vacation (and there have been a few in my time!!) Put it on your bucket list!
