Tomorrow is my 27th Birthday.
That sounds so old, like I am a real adult. I used to be obsessed with birthdays, but recently it seems like life gets in the way. However, no one reminds you how important birthdays are quite like little kids. Our little brother (we will call him “D” for the sake of privacy) was VERY concerned about my birthday and emphasized the importance of adequately celebrating. When I asked him to describe his own birthday traditions, he said, “Well, we wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy (HE SAID THAT. FOR REAL. I ALMOST DIED), and then we go out to breakfast and eat pancakes. Then we go somewhere fun and have lunch at McDonald’s, and then we do more fun things, have pizza for dinner and then go to bed by 8. We need our rest.”
I. Die. Is he not the cutest 9-year-old EVER?! I doubt that I will be feeling like P. Diddy tomorrow, I am more the “drinking hot tea out of a Birthday mug” type of person.
I decided that I needed to celebrate with “D” since he brings the party. Last night we invited him over for a birthday dinner. When I was little, my mom would always make our favorite meal for our Birthday, so I decided that I would do just that. Can anyone guess what I decided to make?
Yep! Crockpot Chicken!
On the side I served Roasted sweet potatoes:
Roasted balsamic broccoli:
Ever since learning that I could not digest gluten, I have been worried about birthday cake. Yeah, I worry about birthday cake. Frosting is a priority in my life, people! Usually, Chase orders something VERY special from a local bakery.
Do you see the number of frosting roses on this cake–that is no accident, my friends.
I have been racking my brain to figure out what I could do to replace cake and still create a celebratory dessert. However, two days ago I had an epiphany: A Flourless Peanut Butter Cookie Competition.
I have discovered many different recipes for gluten-free PB cookies, I have been playing around with various recipes, but I decided it would be super fun to bake the 4 different recipes and have a “Taste-Off.”
“D” was more than excited to be a “judge.” I am not going to lie, I enjoyed it quite a bit, as well!
As for what we will be doing tomorrow on my birthday, I have no idea. Chase has planned a “secret” weekend, so I will let you know on Sunday!
Are you a big birthday person? How do you celebrate your birthday? Any fun traditions?
