Best Birthday Gift Ever: Our First House!

WELCOME TO OUR FIRST HOUSE!!!

Yep, our offer was accepted and we will be moving in less than 3 months!

I will get to cook dinner in THIS kitchen:

We will relax and chat with friends and family in our family room:

We will get to sit by our own FIREPLACE (and make S’mores!)

We are going to turn this extra sitting room in to our Master bedroom because it has many closets–YAY! I will finally have a place for all of my shoes!

And our guests will have MANY options!

When you come and visit us, you can stay in Bedroom #1:

Or Guest Bedroom #2 (I think this will be the future nursery):

Or Guestroom #3 in the sprawling basement:

I will make this room my designated office (I finally won’t be teaching and grading papers on my couch!):

I have no idea what we are going to do with the space in the basement–options galore!

So here are my inspiration photos of decorating ideas I *hope* to incorporate into the house:

I think I may incorporate aspects of this sunny room into my office. I could paint bookcases green and the walls yellow…what do you think?

One of our guestrooms will have a nautical motif–I think with Chase in the Navy this will be so much fun.  We can hang little anchors on the wall.

I am determined to find this shower curtain–I just LOVE polka dots–is it too kitschy?

I would love to find a comforter like this for our master bedroom–it is just so serene!

I would also love to use lots of yellows in our family room.  Yellow makes me happy–can you tell?

Last, but not least, I am DETERMINED to do this for the basement steps.  I loooove it!

Help! Any decorating tips? Where are good places to get CHEAP furniture?  I need guidance people! 🙂

Based on my own experience..my advice would be not to rush though the decorating process..take your time and do it right the first time!

  7. Congrats! That is so, so exciting & the house is adorable!

While I haven’t had to decorate a house yet, I plan to move room by room rather than trying to tackle the whole thing at once (even though that will be hard for me since I’m so impatient!). Chris & I don’t have much furniture & I think we’ll sort of be forced to take it a room at a time when we do get a house simply for financial reasons!

I can’t wait to see what you do with the new place!

  12. Congratulations!!!!! In the DC/MD area there are a lot of furniture warehouse stores. They look shady but they are full of beautiful furniture that you can negotiate prices down. We looked everywhere, and were overwhelmed with the $3000 kitchen tables! But this place is all Ashley Furniture brand, which is middle of the road, but we’ve had it for over a year now and are really happy with the look, quality, and especially the low price tag considering we were furnishing an entire house! I highly recommend!!

  14. CONGRATS ON YOUR HOUSE!!!!!!! I adore the hardwoods and the simplicity. Of course, cheap furniture can be found at IKEA – if you have one near you, check it out. Also, I love West Elm’s bedding and bath collections – they also have some great house accessories, but their furniture is overpriced and low quality. So, IKEA for furniture, West Elm for decorations 🙂 Have fun decorating – it’s one of my favorite things to do.

  15. Congrats on the beautiful home! Wow, it’s huge! I love it! I’d recommend checking out the BX on base – we found some furniture that we had been checking out at other stores but for less money, plus no tax! Good luck decorating, I can’t wait to see photos once you’re all moved in! Eeee! 🙂
