On Friday night Chase packed up the car and we headed to Spring Lake, New Jersey. We were headed to one of my favorite places: The Chateau Inn
Chase booked a 2 night getaway and it was wonderful to have a little birthday adventure!
After checking into our room, Chase surprised me with my “Birthday Cake:”
Chase made me a gluten-free Peanut Butter Cookie Cake! He even decorated it! (He used the “winning” recipe from Thursday night). Even though it was 11PM the night BEFORE my birthday, I decided to dig in and try a piece. It. Was. Glorious!
I woke up early on Saturday morning to a GIANT tower of gift.
Plus, since I was the birthday girl, I got to wake Chase up!! YAY! And he agreed to go on a Happy Birthday run with me!
He had printed guest passes for a local gym, so off we went to Retro Fitness
I hopped on the treadmill and ran 7 miles for my 27th Birthday!
After a lovely sweaty run, I declared it time to open up some presents.
My Mumsie (who has impeccable taste) lavished me with several completely adorable items:
The deliciously pink trench coat was all Mumsie’s doing, and the polka dot pumps were one of Chase’s gifts to me! (Sadly, they are too big–tear!) I am excited to have my very first trench! I feel like it is a very “27-year-old” wardrobe addition.
To compliment the trench, Mumsie also sent me a pair of leopard pumps:
(Also, thanks Dad for being the official packager and mailman!) 🙂
These are seriously the most comfortable heels EVER. I wore them all day on Saturday and I had very happy toes!
My mom also sent me a gluten-free cupcake (it lights up, too!) and two lovely sweaters (including the lemon yellow sweater below!)
Thanks, Mumsie and Dad! 🙂
After our present opening break, Chase took me to lunch at our favorite place in Asbury Park–Nagle’s
I had a lovely birthday lunch filled with yummy vegetables and grilled chicken in the best salad ever!
The next stop on the Birthday schedule was a visit to the Jersey Shore Outlets. Chase HATES shopping, so this was a true GIFT!
I picked up a couple of things at J. Crew and Banana Republic, but I actually just enjoyed window shopping with Chase! We did stop by Godiva for a sweet afternoon snack:
We split a hot chocolate–this thing was INSANE! It was so rich and delicious! I also purchased a dark chocolate dipped macaroon for later. It was a delightful snack!
We later headed back to the Inn to start Round 2 of gift opening! Chase did a pretty amazing job! He got me purple bootie! Too cute!
Chase and I have been married for almost 5 years and he has been trying to buy me shoes for the past several years. The poor guy has a tendency to completely strike out in the shoe-buying department. I am always super touched because it is the THOUGHT that counts–and it is SUCH a sweet thought. While he did an amazing job picking out the polka-dot shoes, they are too big–boo! And the store doesn’t have half-sizes so I am going to have to return them–sadness! However, the purple shooties fit perfectly!
Chase also added to me tea-cup collection! I love this little beauty!
Chase and I have a birthday tradition of always getting each other a children’s book. We now have a bookcase full of children’s books. My newest edition “Talullah’s Tutu” is so stinking cute. I always love the little messages and lessons! This one taught me that I should always work hard, and one day I will earn my “tutu!”
For my birthday dinner, we headed to a Cuban restaurant! However, not without an hour of craziness. You see, my birthday is kind of at a very inconvenient date as it is always RIGHT next to Valentine’s Day. Consequently, restaurants are often SLAMMED on the weekend of my birthday. While Chase tried to get reservations at our favorite restaurant, they did not accept reservations but guaranteed that it would not be too crazy. WRONG. Every single place had at least an hour wait. It was crazytown. After hopping from restaurant to restaurant, we eventually decided to grab a table at the bar at said Cuban restaurant. Hey, it was 9PM and I was starving so this worked!
I ordered the most amazing Cuban soup with chicken, sweet potatoes, and onion–it was insane. I also ordered Yucca fries on the side. The Yucca was super interesting. I think I liked them–but the jury is still out. They were VERY starchy. Has anyone else ever had yucca? We also shared a lovely cheese plate. And Chase ordered half of a cow.
Chase’s steak was GIANT. He loved it! We decided that we were fans of Cuban food! There was also live Cuban music which was fun and added to to atmosphere!
On our drive back to the Inn, I made Chase stop at a drugstore because my throat was starting to get a bit scratchy and my nose kept running. I was trying to pretend that it was my imagination or allergies–um, it wasn’t.
I woke up on Sunday full of SICKNESS! My head felt like a balloon, my nose was completely stuffed and my head hurt–EEEK! Who gets sick on their birthday–lame!
Yesterday was basically a complete wash, I graded papers, drank a TON of water and tried to rest as much as possible. My goal is to kick this cold/sinus infection as fast as possible–Any tips or tricks?!
Do you get sick at the worst times possible? Any tips on how to get rid of a head cold/sinus infection?
